Those with chronic pain will find that using ice whenever the pain flares up will also help. Icing your chronic pain brings down the inflammation, so you will naturally experience pain relief.

Massage

Massages are great for back pain. Not only do massages help your back to feel better while you are getting the message, but they can also improve blood circulation in a way that helps the pain stay gone longer and they can heal new injuries faster.

Healthy Eating

Certain types of foods can cause you to experience more inflammation throughout your body, including your back. When you are already dealing with issues in this part of your body, adding that extra inflammation to things can make matters a lot worse. Some foods that cause inflammation include sugar, alcohol, refined carbs, and processed meat.

Restrict Certain Foods

Just as how you want to stay away from certain foods that will make your back hurt more, you can also eat foods that can make it feel better. Some of the foods that can bring you relief include broccoli, kale, carrots, cherries, pomegranates, rosemary, garlic, and green teas.

Essential Oils

Many people find essential oils helpful when it comes to back pain relief. You can try one type of oil, or you can try a mixture. Be aware if you are going to buy them on your own and try them without guidance from someone familiar with them, you do have to mix the oils down with an oil, such as coconut oil so they aren't too strong. Some that are known for helping with pain and inflammation include lemongrass oil, peppermint oil, eucalyptus oil, and rosemary oil. Essential oils tend to start working after several applications, so not everyone can expect results right away.

Medication

In many cases, people with chronic back pain can get the most relief by taking anti-inflammatory medication, as well as pain medication. When pain medications are closely monitored by a doctor, they can help to significantly decrease back pain and in many instances, the medications can temporarily bring total relief. Muscle relaxers can also help with muscle spasms and similar pains.
